Creating a WinPE Boot Disc with MustangPEBuilder 2 ADK

MustangPEBuilder 2.0 ADK is a free application that allows you to easily build a WinPE 4.0 CD. It allows you to add any needed Windows drivers at build time. To use the software first download the free Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows® 8 from Microsoft. Steps for installing the software are listed at Installing Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK).

After installing the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows® 8 download the Setup_MustangPEBuilder_2_ADK.zip file from MustangPEBuilder 2 ADK. Unzip the file and then run the Setup_MustangPEBuilder_2_ADK.exe program extracted from the zip file. When you start the application, you will be informed that it will be placed in C:\MustangPEBuilder_2_ADK.

The MustangPEBuilder Basics.htm file placed in that directory, which you can open with a browser, states "The MustangPEBuilder folder must be placed in the root folder (C:\) in a Vista or above system."

You will see another window appear when the software is successfully installed informing you that you to navigate to C:\MustangPEBuilder_2_ADK to get started using the software.

If the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows® 8 software from Microsoft was installed in C:\Program Files\Windows Kits\, you can simply click on Create WinPE ISO at this point. If you have a 64-bit Windows system, you may need to change that location to C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\, instead. Or, if you specified some other directory for it to be installed in when you installed it, change the path listed for the Windows ADK.

At the conclusion of the build of the ISO image file, you will be informed it was created in C:\MustangPEBuilder_2_ADK\ISO\winpe_x86.iso.
