Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error from Dell Stage

PureVPN
On a Dell desktop system running Microsoft Windows 7 Professional, for awhile now whenever the user logged into her account, a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library window would open with the following displayed:

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\...

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an
unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

[  OK   ]

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error!

Since the program wasn't identified, with only "C:\..." appearing, it was not immediately obvious what program was causing the problem. So I brought up the Windows Task Manager to determine what program might be causing the window to appear. Under the Aplications tab, I saw a task named "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library", so I knew that was the relevant task.

Microsoft Visual C++
Runtime Error!

I right-clicked on the task and chose "Go To Process". I could then see that the process had a description of "Dell Stage" and was located in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Stage\Dell Stage\ directory and the file was stage_primary.exe.

Dell Stage Process

The file has a SHA256 checksum of 17ea6bdfb73f7af14c8d691390fe5cf6448e0a1350a59372251b65eedb2d0b90 and when I checked it with VirusTotal, none of the 56 antivirus programs with which it scanned the program found any issue with the program (VirusTotal report)

I clicked on the OK button in the window to close the window. When I did the same window reappeared. I closed it as well.

There was a "Check for Updates" shortcut in the directory where the program was located. I clicked on it to check for an update to the software, which opened a "Windows Installer" window, which then opened a "Dell Stage Update" window. Before proceeding with the installation of the software, I checked for information on what features the software might provide. At Dell Stage ???, I found that the software comes preinstalled on some Dell computers, which I thought was likely the case for this computer. At Should I Remove It?: Helping you decide which programs to purge, I found details for the software.

What is Dell Stage? (from Dell)

Stage delivers photos, videos, music, Web pages and more right to your fingertips, with your most recent content always front and center. You’ll effortlessly toggle between photos, videos, music, Web pages and more. Want to listen to the new song you played this morning or watch the rest of the video you saw last night? Just select your music or video tile and your content is right there, without needing to search through your folders to find it. And no matter what supported Dell PC or mobile device you choose, the Dell Stage interface looks almost the same. You listen to music on your way to work, browse your friends’ photos at lunch and stream videos to wind down from the day. Dell Stage lets you create shortcuts and customize playlists so you can get your favorite items the way you want them, when you want them. Your desktop in the other room has the music you want to listen to, but you’re too comfortable on the couch to move. Stage Remote makes it easy stream movies, music and photos between your supported Dell laptop and desktop PCs, so you can enjoy all of your content without having to move a muscle. Staying in control of your media collection has never been simpler.

Judging from what I read there and at the other web page, I didn't think the software was needed on the system nor used by the owner of the system, so I canceled the installation process and then checked on uninstalling the software by clicking on Start, selecting Control Panel, then Uninstall a program beneath Programs. There I saw Dell MusicStage, Dell PhotoStage, Dell Stage, and Dell VideoStage.

Dell Stage Uninstall a Program

I double-clicked on Dell Stage to uninstall it. When I did so, a window opened prompting me for the administrator credentials, since I was logged into the user's account. The program name listed in that window was "Dell Stage", but the "verified publisher" was listed as "Unlimited Realities". When I provided the credentials, I was informed that "The following applications should be closed before continuing the install: AccuWeather.com desktop weather widget" I left the "Automatically close applications and attempt to restart them after setup is complete" checkbox checked and clicked on OK. I just uninstalled Dell Stage and not the Dell MusicStage, Dell PhotoStage, nor Dell VideoStage. After the Dell Stage software was uninstalled, I logged off the system from the user's account and logged back in. This time the "Runtime Error!" window did not appear. I no longer saw a weather widget appear on the desktop, either.
