You can specify search criteria, such as "From:" "Subject:", "Sent:"
etc. followed by the text you wish to search on, e.g., From:
jsmith@example.com
, Subject: Zombies
, etc. If you
wish to specify multiple criteria, simply separate them with a space,
e.g. From: InfoWorld Subject: Chrome
. The search criteria
are not case sensitive, so "zombies" and "Zombies" are treated as being
equivalent.
You can include additional criteria to narrow the search down as far as you
need, e.g. From: InfoWorld Subject: Chrome Sent: 3/12/2014
.
If you wish to search on a subject with spaces in the subject,
e.g. "Chrome extensions", put parentheses around the subject, e.g. use
(Chrome extensions)
. If you wish to search message
subjects for a particular term, but excluding another term, e.g.,
perhaps you want to find all subjects with "Chrome" in the subject,
but you want to exclude any messages that also include "Microsoft",
you could use Subject: (Chrome NOT Microsoft)
. You need to
use all capital letters for NOT
and include the parentheses
around the term, if you wish to be sure that your criteria are applied
in the manner you intend.
There are many other criteria you can use as search criteria,
e.g., if you want to find only messages from a particular
person, Doe, with an attachment, you can use from: doe
hasattachments: true
. You can find a list of other criteria at
Learn to narrow your search criteria for better searches in
Outlook.
You will also see a tool bar with criteria you can pick above the field where you can type criteria. So, if you prefer, you could click on items on that tool bar for some of the search criteria, such as "From", "Subject", "Has Attachments" "Categorized", etc.
