Exporting contacts from Outlook 2010

To export your contacts from Microsoft Outlook 2010, take the following steps:
  1. Open Outlook 2010
  2. Click on the File tab at the top, left-hand corner of the Outlook window.

  5. Click on the Export button.

  6. Select "Export to a file", then click on Next.

  7. You can then select from the following options:

    The choice can depend on the program you will be using to import the contacts. E.g., if you want to import the data into Outlook on another system, then a .pst file is probably the best choice. A comma-separated values (CSV) file is a common format used for exchanging data between applications, so will work with a variety of programs. But, if the other program can accept data stored in a Microsoft Access .mdb or Microsoft Excel .xls file, one of those might be a better choice.

  8. Once you have made your choice and clicked on Next, you will be prompted to choose the folder from which you wish to perform the export. If you wish to export your contacts list, click on it to select it, then click on the Next button. If you have multiple email accounts in Outlook, ensure you selected the appropriate folder under the appropriate account.

  9. You will then be prompted to select the location where the file will be stored and provide a name for the file.

  10. Once you've selected the location and name, click on Next.
