Sugar Baby Watermelon
|
Sweet and juicy The Sugar Baby Watermelon, which has a scientific name of Citrullus lantatus, saves space in the garden and in the refrigerator. Compact vines produce plenty of 6- to 10-pound fruits packed with sweet red-orange flesh. The smaller, round dark green fruit is 7-8" (18-20 cm) in diameter. It is dependably productive, resistant to drought and disease. Cool weather will not produce good fruits, but some of the adversity of cool weather can be overcome by starting seeds early indoors, and transplanting the plants out at the height of summer.
