Sometimes packages are locked to early versions of SMF but remain compatible with a newer version. Here you can choose to "emulate" a different SMF version within the package manager.

Emulate Version:
Revert
After upgrading a Simple Machines Forum (SMF) from version 1.1.13 to 2.0 RC5, I tried reinstalling Ultimate Profile 0.9.1 (the version for RC 4), but saw the following error message:
The webpage for the package indicated it was compatible with "1.1.8, 1.1.9, 1.1.10, 1.1.11, 2.0 RC3, 2.0 RC4", but didn't mention 2.0 RC5.
I tried reuploading the software, but the problem occurred again. Checking online as to whether anyone else had encounted the same problem with SMF 2.0 RC5 and Ultimate Profile 0.9.1, I found someone mentioning that SMF had an emulate function that could be used to resolve the problem. So I deleted the package again. I then went to Browse Packages and clicked on the Advanced link at the bottom of the list of packages. That showed me the following:
I changed "SMF 2.0 RC5" to "SMF 2.0 RC4" and clicked on the
Apply button. I then reuploaded the Ultimate Profile package,
ultimate_profile-0-9-1_20rc4
and this time when I clicked
on Apply Mod, I did not have any errors. Instead, I saw the
message "The package was installed successfully. You should now be able
to use whatever functionality it adds or changes; or not be able to use
functionality it removes."
After the installation successfully completed, I went to Browse Packages, clicked on Advanced and reset the emulation to the installed version of SMF, "SMF 2.0 RC5".
To activate Ultimate Profile support, from the menu bar at the top of a forum webpage, go to Profile, Forum Profile, and then, under Modify Profile, select Ultimate Profile. Then check the checkbox next to "Enable Ultimate Profile?" and click on the Change Profile button.
I had to follow the same process for Moderator and Administrator Comment Tags 1.8.1. When I configured SMF to emulate SMF 2.0 RC4, I was able to successfully install that mod. I also had to use the same procedure to install Enhanced Profile Header, though in that case emulating SMF 2.0 RC4 didn't work. I had to emulate SMF 2.0 RC2. For that mod, I also chose to install in other themes. I was able to install it for all other themes on the system, except the "Reference" theme; there was a failure for ./Themes/reference205/index.template.php. For Tidy Child Boards, I had to emulate SMF 2.0 RC3.
If you have to emulate an earlier version of SMF in order to install a package, when you go to Browse Packages, you may not see an "Uninstall" option for the package. If you change the emulation back to the version of SMF you emulated when you installed the package, you should see an "Uninstall" option appear to the right of the mod name.
