Turning McAfee Total Protection Real-time protection off
If you wish to run off the real-time scanning feature of McAfee Total
Protection temporarily, for instance if you wish to check the system
with another antivirus product, you can take the following steps on a Windows
7 system (Note: applies to McAfee Total Protection version 12.8 and may apply
to other versions as well):

Click on the Windows Start button, then select All Programs,
then McAfee, then MacAfee Total Protection.

When the McAfee Total Protection application opens, click on
Navigation at the upper, right-hand corner of the window.

From the Navigation Center window, click on Features.

Click on Real-Time Scanning.

Click on Turn off.

Select the turn off period from the drop down list. The default value is
15 minutes, but you can select 30, 45, or 60 minutes, instead, as well as
"When I restart my PC" and "Never".

Click on the Turn Off button.

You will then see "Real-Time Scanning: Off"; click on the Done
button.

You can then close the McAfee Total Protection window.
