Detecting Altered Images
If you see an image posted somewhere on the Internet or have one sent to you
by email that you suspect has been
"
photoshopped", i.e. digitally altered, are there any methods that will
assist you in making that determination? There are indeed methods and tools
to assist you. If the image is a
jpeg image, you can upload the image
or submit the URL for its location on the web to the
Image Error Level Analyzer.

Photoshopping and Digital Forensics
A lot of photos you see posted on the web or sent around by email may have been

photoshopped", i.e. doctored in an image editing program, such as Adobe's
Photoshop graphics program. Such
photo
manipulation has been going on since before the advent of Photoshop, though.A Scientific American article,

2, 2008, details techniques that can be used to determine when photos have
been digitally altered.

Adobe Photoshop CS2 Saving Files in Incorrect Format
I encountered a problem with Adobe Photoshop CS2 version 9.0 on a system
where Photoshop would not correctly save a file when the "Save As" option
was used. You could pick whatever format you chose, but Photoshop would always
save the file as a Photoshop PSD file. Oh, you could have it put on the
extension for the desired format, e.g. somefile.jpg, but the contents of
the file would be in
PSD format.
If you chose "Save for Web" instead of "Save As" you could save the file
correctly in the chosen format, e.g. JPG.
I was finally able to resolve the problem by holding down the Ctrl, Alt,
and Shift keys while starting Photoshop to have it wipe out its stored
settings
