Determining whether the Windows 10 Anniversary Update is installed

How do you determine if the Windows 10 Anniversary Upate has been installed on a system running Microsoft Windows 10? There are several methods that you can use to ascertain whether the update has been installed.

Use winver to determine the installed version of Microsoft Windows

In the Cortana "Ask me anything" field, type winver and hit Enter. If you see the version listed as Version 1607 or later then the Anniversary Update has been installed.

Winver - version 1607

The "16" is for "2016" and the "07" represents July, though the Anniversary Update was released in August. The original version of Windows 10 was "OS Build 20340" and the "November Update" version of Windows 10 was "Version 1511 (OS Build 10576.29)". The "15" was for "2015" and the "11" represents November of that year.

You can also tell if you have the Anniversary Update by looking at the system tray, aka "notifications area" at the lower, right-hand corner of the screen. The Action Center icon will appear to the right of the date and time, as in the example below, if the Anniversary Update is installed. In the example below there are four notifications for the Action Center.

Using systeminfo tool at a command prompt

You can also obtain a command prompt and use the systeminfo command to determine whether the Windows 10 Anniversary Update was installed and the date and time the Anniversary Update was installed. E.g., the example below is from the same system as used in the examples for the two methods above - see Determining the version of Microsoft Windows from the command line for further information on determining the version of Microsoft Windows from a command prompt.
C:\>systeminfo | findstr /R "^OS.Version Original.Install.Date"
OS Version: 10.0.14393 N/A Build 14393
Original Install Date: 9/21/2016, 9:39:53 PM

C:\>

In the output above, the operating system (OS) version is listed as "10.0.14393 N/A Build 14393", though the graphical user interface (GUI) example using winver shows "Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.187)". The output from both the winver and systeminfo commands shows "Build 14393". The "Original Install Date" shown above is not the date Microsoft Windows 10 was installed on the system, but is, instead, the date that the Anniversary Update was installed.
