Cisco switches have the capability to mirror what is going to/from one port on a switch to another port on the same switch for monitoring purposes. Cisco dubs this mirroring capability "port spanning". The
monitor command can be used to have all of the data
to and from a particular port copied to another port of your choosing
on the switch.
